Why did you choose to come to work at Balentine?
I was drawn to Balentine because of the feel and fit of the firm. Balentine has a strong culture and is constantly striving to maintain it. This dogmatic focus resonates when you speak with clients, and it’s something that cannot be manufactured.
Who were your heroes growing up and how did they influence your life and career?
My late father, James C. Binnicker, has far and away been the most influential person in both my life and career. His entire life’s work was focused on two things: people and how to be a better leader for them. He instilled within me an ethos on how to be a man, both personally and professionally, and I strive to live up to that each day. I miss him all the time and am continually reminded of things he taught me that have shaped the person I am today. My father was my hero and best friend, and I hope to be the same for my sons.
What keeps you awake at night?
Other than my two young sons? What keeps me awake at night is thinking that my clients might be awake at night. We work each day to increase the probability of your investment success and ensure peace of mind. If something is bothering you, we need to know so that we can remedy the situation.B
If you were abandoned on a deserted island, what three books would you want to have with you?
I would only need one, and that’s The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho; that book really changed the way I think.
