How and why did you get into this business?
I’ve always had a math/finance brain, but estate planning and personal finance became a real passion for me after experiencing the death of my mother. She was diagnosed with a rare terminal illness and passed away within a matter of weeks when I was a junior in college. At the age of twenty-one I was mourning her loss and handling her estate. I made several decisions in regards to my inheritance that I’d do a little differently now if I were able to change things. With two young children of my own, it’s also very important to both my husband and me that we have a plan in place in the event something should happen to provide for them and protect them. It’s not a fun topic to discuss and unfortunately, lots of people put off the discussion because of it.
Why did you choose to come work at Balentine?
The main reason I chose to come to work at Balentine was the people and the culture. The motivation and focus the employees have within the organization excites me! I’m thrilled to come work for a company full of such driven people with a team-based approach. I’m also extremely excited to learn and grow in my career from such talented and experienced professionals.
What do you like to do in your down time away from work?
Spend time with family and friends, anything outdoors, gardening (although almost everything I’ve tried in our terrible clay soil just dies), family walks in the neighborhood and indoor cycling.
What keeps you awake at night?
My to-do list!
What is the most exotic place you have ever been?
Roatán Island, an Island in Honduras. It was one of the four stops on a seven-day Carnival cruise and the beach was absolutely breathtaking.
